Plain paper wrapper

by doug frazier   May 5, 2007

Time in a bottle, and no place to hide.
And no explanation; for those that have died.
The young, the innocent, the weak and the strong. There's no protection, something has to be wrong.

A few drinks after work, to wash away a hard day.
But on the way home a child had to pay.
Tempers are hot, the liquor is cool.
Another wife goes down to the gun of a fool.

Friends get together, a few beers at the beach
A buddy just drowned a hand they couldn't reach.
Prom night at a high school, they drink and they
Dance the teenagers in the car never had a chance.

I read it in the paper day in and day out.
Some don't understand what the fuss is about.
Legalized poison in bottles and cans.
Just pain and misery you can hold in your hand.

A dangerous weapon, with lasting effects.
Just look at the lives and homes it has wrecked.
Education's the answer, don't drink and drive,
Try to control anger, let's try to save our lives...

Thank you Ingrid for you for your kind words, I wrote this poem for Mothers against drunk drivers(MADD). Do the best you can with the drinking, I know you can control the beast

    Nice poem!
I must admitt I do drink and drive, but never more than two glasses of wine, but I think it would be better if I didn't drink at all!

    5/5 Ingrid
