She Made A Believer Out of Me

by HOLLYWOODxBANGBANG   May 7, 2007

Smiling with integrity, she colored a crayola sky,
Baby blue, to match her Mother's bright eyes,
And on the grass, she drew in flowers and trees,
With a golden sun and crisp Autumn leaves.

Dogs and Children ran through wheat fields with ease,
And leaves were scattered on the ground from the breeze,
An ice cream truck bell rang in the distance from her,
Running, she left behind with me, her growing picture.

And on the bench beside her I sat, laughing as she ate -
Her treat and confessed ice cream to be so great,
Golden hair tied in pigtails shining in the bright sunlight,
And her freckles and dimples made her look just right.

In her eyes, there was a look of fear, in midsummer July,
And every night she'd pray to God, asking him why:
"Daddy runs away and Mommy won't talk to her -"
Her childhood came to be such a horrid blur.

But when I see her now, smile reaching from ear to ear,
With her husband and little children always near;
I smile when I see what she has come so far to be,
And whisper: "She made a believer out of me."

Story - A child whose Father abandoned her and her Mother and was a drug addict, Mother went crazy and will not talk to her anymore, a different girl took the child (the one narrating the story) and raised her, she grew up successful and happy and made a believer out of the foster parent. True story.
