SOON(a poem about how a girl deals with an abusive father)

"Soon"
By, Amanda Duckworth

The rain slides slowly down the window
it drips off into the flowers
I look into my warm cozy house
silently, as it showers

I do this often i must say
at least three times a weak
Every time he hits her
I find it hard to speak

This problem is very common
with me and all my friends
We all seem to run away
until the hurting ends

But the hurt never does stop
for me at the least
My family looks and seems so happy
but my father is a neast

He kicks her for lack of money
he never seems to care
And she just lets it go on
speak, she wouldn't dare

He slaps her for the booze
when she is sick in bed
He makes her do what he wants
puts bad thoughts in her head

Thoughts of pain and sorrow
fill me up and glosses my eyes
I think of all hes done to us
and decides he deserves to die

Later on the eerie night
I walk up to they're room
I lean over the bed and whisper,
"it will be over soon"

My mom wakes up to see me
with tears in my eyes and knife in hand
She looks so helpless and begs me
"please don't, hes just a man"

I pause a moment and wonder
is this what it will be?
Will i need to put up with this?
let this happen to me?

Memories of hurt fill my head
I stare into my mothers eyes
I tell her softly and quietly,
"think of the tears he made you cry"

She sits there for a moment
her body quakes with sobs
She holds the bed for support
and nods for me to do the job

I lifts the knife over my head
and lean close to his ear
"Thanks so very much dad
for all the million tears"

I plunge it into his heart
his eyes open up wide
He gasps for air and fails
he has finally died

My moms eyes meet mine
as the lightning fills the room
The time for us has come
the time that we called "soon"

THE END
