Nightmare

by Soft Parade   May 9, 2007

I awoke in a dream
catching my breath,
to paralyzed to scream,
i felt as cold as death.

Above the thrashing waves,
there was a great black mist,
from out of the caves,
bats rose up in a cyst.

As they crowded the sky,
silhouetting the moon -
i began to cry,
tears for the lagoon.

What was left of the light,
surmounted my fear.
My hair was pulled tight,
to the left of my ear.

The breath on my neck
was numbingly cold,
as i fell to the deck,
my heart felt old.

Almost dead,
i fell off the side,
but awoke in a bed,
a vampires bride.
