Killing Me Softly (Kyrielle Sonnet)

by Bryan   May 9, 2007

No matter how hard that I try,
I can't help but begin to cry.
From the pain of you leaving me,
Your love is killing me softly.

I dont want to see you again,
I have loved you until the end.
So now I can finally see,
Your love is killing me softly.

Maybe I can move on from here,
let my heart finally see clear.
But I know it's not meant to be,
Your love is killing me softly.

No matter how hard that I try,
Your love is killing me softly.

A Kyrielle Sonnet consists of 14 lines (three rhyming quatrain stanzas and a non-rhyming couplet). Just like the traditional Kyrielle poem, the Kyrielle Sonnet also has a repeating line or phrase as a refrain (usually appearing as the last line of each stanza). Each line within the Kyrielle Sonnet consists of only eight syllables. French poetry forms have a tendency to link back to the beginning of the poem, so common practice is to use the first and last line of the first quatrain as the ending couplet. This would also re-enforce the refrain within the poem. Therefore, a good rhyming scheme
for a Kyrielle Sonnet would be:
AabB, ccbB, ddbB, AB -or- AbaB, cbcB, dbdB, AB.

Though choosing a song title for a poem can be difficult or tricky you did it very well!
I love reading sonnets, and how people come up with very artistic and creative poems.
You did a very good job at writing this poem, you really can feel emotion dripping from the paper (sort of speak)
thanks, yet again for the read :)
