The Photograph

by Gwen   Apr 16, 2004

This morning I told you I loved you
and how you made me feel,
I told you how much I missed you
and that my feeling for you were real.
I told you how I felt you
in my dreams again last night,
How I melted into you
as you held me oh so tight.
I told you about the children
I hoped we'd have one day,
And how sorry I was about the one we lost
but you had no words to say.
I told you that a love like ours
was so precious and so rare,
And still you said nothing
I wonder if you care.
I told you I met someone else
and he reminds me of you,
And although it breaks my heart
I know what I must do.
I told you the time had finally come
to go our separate ways,
Unless of course you said the words
to make me want to stay.
I begged you with all my heart
to say what I wanted to hear,
To tell me you'd always love me
and you'd always be near.
So when you still said nothing
and with my heart heavy with sadness and gloom,
I slowly put your photo back on the shelf
and moved to another room.

My wife just left me for someone else, so, as you can imagine, this poem hit me hard. Thank you for putting my thoughts into words.
