Unsung Songs of Truth

by The Queen of Spades   May 11, 2007

In the darkest of nights
I sang a woeful hymn
Around the earth in places
Both bright and ever dim

Lyrics as black as coal
With somber beat and tune
I prayed it would be heard
But when it was, 'twas too soon

Since ears and minds weren't ready
For the bleakness I did sing
Wretch'd hearts and souls grew weary
Of pain within that would ring

So I learned of something cold
Of truth so dark, unforgiving
Of misery and forlorn frowns
That reality will bring

And I sit in this darkest night
Now silent and ever still
Someday to sing when all are ready
Yes, in that day again I will

  • Good poem.
It flowed well and the rhyming didn't seem forced.
