Jesus's Tombstone

by Poetvoices   May 12, 2007

On that morning, I see things were foggy,
But maybe if the ladies hadn't been so amazed,
They would have seen the inscription so small
On the tombstone, rolled away.

"Here lies Jesus Christ...

Husband of the church,
Loving father,
Beloved son,
Closer than a brother,

Model citizen,
Articulate messenger,
Commanding captain,
Skilled shepherd,

Friend of many,
Redeemer,
Advocate to the blameless,
Savior

Gifted author,
Intelligent public speaker,
Honorable judge,
Wise counselor,

Boss and commanding captain,
Qualified mediator,
Watchful witness,
Powerful prince and sensible lawmaker

Governor of all things,
Although not always respected as such,
And the one who can redeem us all,
If we accept that his death can do that much.

Tomorrow morning,
he will rise,
to meet the father and sun
in the Easter skies."
