Poetry Is Just An Escape From Reality

by xPerfect Chaosx   May 12, 2007

Words dance on the page
Fly unheeded from thy pen
Paint pictures with those words
Form false illusions
And worlds of lies

Draw lives and fairy tales
With endings full of deception
Fake and yet full of real emotion
Happily ever after

Verse after verse
Of your fantasy life
The one we'd all like to lead
The high of deceiving yourself
Into thinking that it could be real
Even if only for a moment

Stanza after Stanza
Of carefully weaved lies
Carefully said to not break the illusion
We live in a reality all our own

Line after line
Of happy endings
Or heartbroken sobs
Nobody speak to loudly
It'll shatter the illusion

Carefully constructed
This lovely little world of ours
Stands far above the real
For ours is built
Of dreams and wishes
Of hope and despair
Of love and hate
Of truth and lies

I've come to realize,
Poetry is just an escape from reality

Don't agree with the conclusion whatsoever, but on the whole this is a bittersweet piece of excellent prose. If I may make one suggestion:

    "Carefully constructed
    Built piece by piece"

The first line infers the method, making the 2nd line redundant. In fact reading that bit again with "Built piece by piece" left out, it sounds better to me. Just a thought, like. :-)
