Final Release

by Jackie   May 16, 2007

Alone tired and broken she sits in her room
The feeble flickering candle trying to brighten the gloom
A moth eaten blanket battles to fight out the cold
Her body's getting weaker from hungers firm hold

Abandoned by the husband and children she cherished
Their love and respect for her long since perished
Saddened by memories of her soft downy bed
And never having to worry when next she'll get fed

Her once beautiful home now an empty shell
Her prized possessions forced to sell
The money squandered on gambling and drink
Alcohol into depression causing her to sink

Succumbing to the whiskey and pills temptation
Her body's awash with a calming sensation
Recalling sweet memories as she gasps her last breath
Her body enveloped into the awaiting arms of death
