Trying to Forget

by Allexielle   May 16, 2007

I looked at all the things
you have given me.
They were all tucked away in my closet,
all neatly kept and preserved.

I put them all in a box,
head out back with a matchbox.
I look at the stuff once more,
but all I could see is us before.

I cannot stop the tears from pouring,
nor can I stop the hurting;
so I try to start a fire on all of it,
but the wind keeps putting it out.

I patiently build up the blaze,
Trying to use both of my hands,
Until the fire slowly grows,
Until all is burnt and lost.

Setting things on fire is like forgetting.
At first, it is hard to throw away feelings,
but with time and patience,
One can set the past in flames.

However, there are things the fire cannot burn away,
like the ring we used to wear everyday.
No matter how hard I try to forget what we shared,
I can never forget the bond that used to be there.

I dont think we can ever forget about someone that had been really close and intimate to us. Losing them is probably the hardest part.

The truth is we can never erase our memories, its what makes us who we are today.

    Great poem!
