Rainbow and the rain

by Lanie Blackmon   May 16, 2007

As this morning sunrise gently turned away the dark,
little Ms.Lanie set out for a stroll in the park.
She walked through fields of dewdrops, gleamed like diamonds everywhere.
While mounds of cotton candy fog,
drifted through the air.

And Lanie awoke the flowers of kingdom on this day,
she walked on the logs, somehow spoke to the frogs
as she skipped along her way.

She stared for a time at the deep green trees,
that swayed in the gentle breeze,
then she ran down the hills and into the park
through a clearing in the trees.

But there in clearing sat an old, old man,
quietly looking at the ground,
with hair that was white and wild and windblown, touseled all around.
Over his collar and over his coat,
onto his broad, broad back,
with a long white beard that flowed from his cheeks, over his workmen's pack.

"How do you do, I'm Lanie" she said,
frightened and somewhat awed.
And smiling kindly, the old man replied,
"How do you do I'm God".

Now I suppose if it happened to you,
you'd really be taken by surprise,
but then we are not as young as Lanie,
and probably not as wise.

For she noted the muscles that swelled in his arms
and the hands that were calloused and curled.
He certainly seemed like the kind of man
that could have created the world.

So Lanie smiled at God and simply said
"What are you doing here"?,
and as he spoke it seemed to her,
he was holding back his tears.

"I've come to sit here in this beautiful park
and watch the gentle breeze.
And listen to the wind circling,
making music with the trees".

He seemed like someone she'd known all her life,
a very special friend,
then he looked at Lanie and finally said
"It's time to bring things to an end".

"I don't understand" said Lanie,
"when the sun shines on so bright,
and the fog comes pouring over the hills
to soften up the night".

So God raised his arms and fog swirled down
out of the mists nearby.
Forming a stairway that led to a cloud
at the very top of the sky.

"Come with me and I'll let you see
why it's time to end it all.
I'll show you the kind of things I've watched
from up in my heavenly hall".

So Lanie took his hand and walked,
and climbed along the magic way
To look at all the evil,
that God looks on each day.

All across the world, she saw
BIGOTRY, HATRED, and more.
Looming on the horizon,
was the FIRE and ANGUISH of WAR.

She watched and cried at the pain she saw
which God looks on each day.
To struck to move till God reached down,
and turned her eyes away.

Lanie shook as she spoke
"you are so right to want to end it now,
only PLEASE Lanie said, sort of out of breath
could you wait a few days somehow"?.

"I have alittle brother just 2 and 1/2,
and we've waited he and I
for it to rain so we can see
the rainbow in the sky".

I saw one once about a year ago,
and it hasn't rained since then,
and it's almost time my mommy says
for it to rain again".

So God lit the sky with his smile and said,
"Ever since time began,
people have talked of believing in God
and some eternal plan".
If only mankind could see the rainbow's
you and your brother wish only to see,
maybe then, there would be more peace on earth
and this sadness would be lifted off me".

Such an innocent request as God opened up the sky
while looking at the world in pain.
And let Lanie and her little brother enjoy
the rainbow and the rain.
