Months

Long ago, I remember you...
Back when days were silent, nights were slow,
Back when we were strangers,
Introduced by your girlfriend, watched TV,
You stripped to show me your shirt.
January.

Our new group: you said hello to us all, I the only girl,
Started speaking to the boy across you,
As I stared, listening, observing,
And you teased me, asked if I thought you weird.
I shook my head, joined in, laughing, smiling,
That first day... February.

We became a bit closer, I thought you were nice,
It was fun, we laughed, joked,
One weekend in, I realized,
I had feelings for you, after,
Two days without you, thinking nonstop,
In March.

April rolled by, we switched seats soon after,
I was devastated; my world was seats away,
I held my head high, the pain rushing in,
Losing the one I cared, to never talk again,
And I held my head high and proud, smiled and waved,
Losing you in April.

The first day of May, we no longer talked,
No more trips down the stairs,
No more flirts or laughter,
I feel the guilt rushing,
And all I can do is stare,
What a hurtful month.
