Hand Me Down Blues

by Daisy if you do   May 17, 2007

Asphalt steams from summer heat
Rain cools down the city street
Apartment walls much to thin
Muffled screams witness sin

Broken children, murdered wives
Victims lay where crime survives
Homicide marked with chalk lines
Snapped long ago ties that bind

Blue-light special, rear view mirror
Distance closing, getting nearer
Sounds of sirens getting louder
Hard turn right to ditch his powder

Can't look back on things he's done
Screeching halt, he draws his gun
Fires off two, but bad aim misses
Rushed by cops, hard ground he kisses

Guilty of charges too many to name
Just like his father they lay blame
Walked his share of miles in his shoes
Paces death row in hand me down blues

Heart breaking the reality of this stanza. So many times we close our eyes to the things happening that when we finally open them ... it is such a shock.
Very hard hitting write with deep impact upon the heart.
    Wonderfully penned!

Thank you for your comment on my poem also. Very much appreciated.

The saddest thing about this poem is that what you've written is exactly true. People never really care why others have done what they have done, they just care about justice. Great poem.

    Take Care.
