Stranger

Hello Mrs can I get you a drink
yes, but only one I must be getting home soon
Oh, is there someone waiting
No, I just want to get out of this place
OK well let me get you that drink and we'll go together

Two strangers meeting in a bar
Some would call it fate they will call it love
Someday when the preachers at their side
Looking into the others eyes
A locked in promise till death do us part
Yet stranger than their unplanned meeting
Is the fact it could've been me an' you.

Four years later and the little guy just turned three
The love is still going strong, life is good
Everything is perfect theres nothing that can go wrong
The phone begins to ring
Hello Mrs some things happened do you have a moment
Yes, what's all this about
It's your husband ma'am there's been an accident
His car stalled on the tracks
He didn't have a chance he died upon impact.

Two strangers talking on the phone
Some would call it fate she'll just call it pain
Someday when the preachers at her side
Looking at his lifeless body
An unlocked promise now fully understood
Yet stranger than that deadly night
Is the fact it could've been me an' you

Nine years later now and the little man just turned ten
It was hard for her at first
Waking up without him at her side tore her apart
But she had to stay strong for her little man
He'd started asking questions
When daddy didn't come home
Mommy where's daddy? He would ask
Daddy's with Jesus now sweetie
And if you're a good boy
and help your mommy out
You'll see him again one day...

The little boy at sixteen now
Been twelve years since that night
The one daddy didn't come home
He's mom still cries at night from time to time
He helps her out the best he can
He's her strength now
And stranger than all this
Is the fact that it's me an' you
