The Bell Rings

by Catty   May 18, 2007

The bell rings; back to my reality
Surrounded by non-believers
Heads lost in the darkest clouds
Smoke in their breath, but not from cigarettes
From street signs of wasted time
Pointing them 90 miles per hour in the wrong direction
So many people walk this crowded hall
Only a fraction know Your name; only a selection walk with You
How did this world get so crazy?
How did we end up so far from You?
Desires override our judgment
And materials add to the pain
People wonder why they are so unhappy
Yet they only speak to You in vain
But hope exists-as I recall my darker days
I kept my distance; I pushed You away
I was in a world of hurt; so torn up and confused
It was hard for me to trust; even someone like You
We all rest in imperfections; there are cracks in our plastic smiles
Yet grown-ups fail to understand
Concepts that come easily to the child
What we choose to fix with duct tape, He will fix with nails
For the love of Jesus Christ, will never prevail
