A mother's fight for her children

by Vanessa   May 20, 2007

A mother and two little boys with dirty faces
She can no longer remember all of the places
That she has been, that morning alone
Searching for her boys a stable home
For two long years, they have slept in the streets
Every night she cries herself to sleep.
Remembering how they once had it all
And how quickly their entire world did fall.
Cancer took her husband, taxes took their home
She was out of work and all alone.

No relatives to even take them in
Fighting the hunger they always feel within
Trying provide their daily bread
She wishes for release, if only in her head
The little boys play tag with each other
Never straying far from their mother
Their happy laughter still seems so sad
She never thought it would get this bad
She looks down at her children with shame
Never wanting them to know this kind of pain.

She has to do something, and do it quick
For she has become frail and sick.
No money for medicine, she fights everyday
Just to find her children, a safe place to stay
It's the only thing that matter to her anymore.
The freedom for her children, she is fighting for.
A man in long black car, spots the three
His closes his eyes and dreams of a family
He wants wants to raise the boys up to be men
To rid them of the hunger, the always feel within.

Calling them over, his window rolled down
She mother is frightened, the boys make no sound
In a hushed voice, he speaks to them slow
Telling the mother, he got a place they can go.
She exchanges glances with her sons
Climbs, in the car, something has to be done.
She thanks the man for all she is worth
Her boys are to have a bed, not of grass and earth.
He takes to his house, up on a hill
All of her dreams, are finally real.

She maid prepares them a lot of food
The mother laughs, in a good mood.
The little boy's smiles light up the room
Lifting from their mother eyes, the gloom.
Upstairs, stomachs full, she draws them a bath
Watching them splash each other, she laughs.
The man bought them all new clothes, and shoes
Several different sizes, so they can chose
The fight is over, it is a new day
She has found her and her boys a new place to stay.

This was a real nice poem The flow was good the stanza was good the grammar had a few boo boos but all is good. The message was great, Hallmark where are you when you are needed. Great job, the only thing would be I would question the man's motives for being this nice. There is always a thing of cause and effect, the man's actions would have to be understood. That the only thing I would need to have explained but the poem was great kudos Hun!!!! Plot121

Great poem. I really liked the ending. I also liked the format and I thought that the length of the poem was just right. Keep up the great work. 5/5
