In Animal Form

Perhaps my best friend
In animal form
An orange and white cat
Who comes scraping at my door

She arrived when I was 5
And hasn't left since
How could you not love her?
It just wouldn't make sense

A woman going door-to-door
Trying to sell pets
We purchased her: the cutest one
And forgot about the rest

We named her accordingly
With her orange and white fur
She loves to curl up on my lap
And quietly pur

She scratches at my door each night
Of course, I let her in
She sleeps right on top of me
Underneath my chin

She's "punched" my dog a few times
More than quite a bit
She's just so playful and energetic
She just can't seem to quit!

Over twenty pounds, she tips the scales
Eating very much
She always has time to stop
And sit at her bowl to munch

She's listened to my secrets
And told not a soul
I expect that she never will
As long as there is food in her bowl!

She was there for me
When the ones I loved died
She let me hold her like a baby
And I cried and cried and cried

She follows me around the house
And I pick her up to carry
We used to play airplane together
She'd meow; it was too scary

I love my cat with all my heart
She's always there for me
I know she loves me back, too
Though we're not even the same species!
