Take the time to listen

Tonight a man told me
A tale about his life
It made me cry inside
what happened wasn't right

I didn't know how to comfort
This man i barely knew
Silence was the only thing
I could think of to do

So in silence we stood
for hours or more it seemed
After those moments though
He began to speak

Thank you for just listening
And not judging me
unlike so many others
that just say degrading things

It meant so much to him
just to have someone there
even though i just listened
It proved I actually cared

Tonight i heard a man
cry thanking me
just for being there
in his time of need
