Thy Gift of Love (Triolet)

by Wallace   May 22, 2007

My heart misused and lost thy trust
For thou has stole thy gift of love
Taken and destroyed by one's lust
My heart misused and lost thy trust
A lover's passion stained with rust
Swept away like a flock of doves
My heart misused and lost thy trust
For thou has stole thy gift of love

A Triolet is a poetic form consisting of only 8 lines. Within a Triolet, the 1st, 4th, and 7th lines repeat, and the 2nd and 8th lines do as well. The rhyme scheme is simple: ABaAabAB, capital letters representing the repeated lines.
Each line 8 syllables in length (4 metrical feet),
Written in iambic tetrameter (the more common way), or in pentameter (English version) where each line only has 10 syllables (5 metrical feet).

    OH.

    I frigging loved this.
This is my favourite style of formed poetry, and you mastered it beautifully here.

Despite the Triolet structure being relatively short, you managed to display such depth and emotion in this piece and I found the flow to be good throughout the piece.

This was wonderfully written, and the fact that it was a triolet was an added bonus for me.
