Remember the Child

by Twisted Heart   May 23, 2007

Hula hoops, ring-a-lings,
Lincoln logs, decoder rings
Are all parts of my memory
Of when I was a child
Barbie dolls, Jewelry box,
Etch-a-sketch, books with locks
Staying home with chicken pox
Driving my folks wild.

Silver trees at Christmas time,
Tangled balls of fishing line
Easter eggs we couldn't find
Grew rotten after days
Baseball games in vacant lots,
Dips in creeks when it was hot
Wars by all in fun was fought
Life's games were all in play.

Now as I take a look back then,
Such fun, I can't remember when
See what I've done from where I've been
In me it brings a tear
To hold fast to the memory,
Of life so young and life so free
Sometimes it takes the breath of me
From all these many years.

Talk about a trip down memory lane. You have mastered our memories from childhood and wrote them perfectly. I am in awe of the memories you brought back with this poem. I am speechless and cannot even tell you everything this poem done for me. Wonderful Reminiscing about the past though. Great Job and excellent poem. 5/5

Oh the memories of the sweet life ..
I remember many of the things you mentioned here but ....fortunately I can say .... wooot wooot I have NEVER had the chicken pox. Isn't that something to go 35 years and never get them ....lol
Even when my son and niece had them I still never got them ...

A walk down memory lane for me!

This brings back so many memories of growing up in the 60's. Imagery is great. We had some awesome acorn fights :) What a great era for childhood.
    Excellent!
