Boarding off, I know this will be my last
When i come home, the flag will be at half mass
Not knowing where I am or where I am going
In a state of confusion as we stay afloating
We finally land and receive our missions
I have to roam the streets in these harsh conditions
I see some people a quarter mile down
I draw my rifle as I head into town
As I sit on a rooftop day and night
just waiting for that moment, until the time is right
I look through the scope and see a child
He looks like a fit young boy, keen and mild
My mission is clear, to take out them all
My heart shrunk and it left so small
As I look at this young boy, I look at my life
Knowing that he has no chance, no weapon, no knife
I put my finger on the trigger, sweating a river
I hesitate and I start to quiver
I take a breath and make it clear
Knowing that I will make his family weep
I squeeze the trigger and I suddenly freeze
Coldness went from my fingers to my toes
I couldn't look but my mission was clear
I took a glance through the scope
And saw my deepest fear
The child was lying dead on the road
I jumped back far like a little toad
Closing my eyes tightly, gripping my gun
As I perched back up, ready for another one.
