I would fly but my wings are broken

by BlueAngel   May 23, 2007

From the ground I climb the tallest tree,
its branches reaching out as if to embrace me
like I wish the man I love would.

Small twigs grab at my wings as if in warning
of what's to come,
but I no longer feel their tug because both pain and
sadness have numbed me,
and left me without the voice I once sang of hope with.

I reach the top of the tree and spread my wings wide,
then I push myself out into the sky,and I fall to the ground.

I stare up at the sky as I finally feel my hidden pain, while
the wind blows whispers of sympathy through the many branches of the trees.

The tears come as darkness falls on my
once whole heart that now lies beside me,
ripped into pieces like the petal of a once red rose,
now withered and brown.

No more do I feel as I finally stand and walk away,
wishing for an end that will never come,
for an angel that cannot fly will only exist within the misery
of life without love,

which acts as the wind beneath their wings.
