COLORBLIND (part I)

by vanessarrr   Apr 18, 2004

I was raised in another place
where racial differences
was rarely brought up in the tables
or talked about in the streets.

nevertheless i was colorblind.
i see equal patterns
and pallid colors all the same.
i always find myself amidst

the living crowd akin to each other.
not caring about my skin color
or my physical appearance
because it never mattered to me.

i was almost a part of a world
that lives on its own without
needing any particular color-
red for bravery, green for envy,

white for purity or yellow for fun.
it was a vivid canvas of one
shade of gray, gray, gray.
black wasn't available because

it was neither a color or a
hue made of anything.
black wasn't present because
light can't get through it.

but we couldn't just stay in
our own colorless world.
i was still colorblind but it was
time for me to see.

Another great poem! I've read "colorblind" analogies before, but yours is excellent!
