I am From

by ScarletDeLoup   May 24, 2007

I am from Alaska, cold and dark in the fall, winter, and spring

Summers warm and yellow, long and bright.

I am from snowmen, snowball fights, and angels in the snow.

I am from frozen blueberries and

Anything that tasted of oranges.

I am from the dance classes I took, from ballet to hip-hop.

I am from the plane that took me to Texas,

To the heat and the grass.

I am from The Land Before Time and Fern Gully The Little Mermaid and The Adams Family.

I am from Stephen King's IT and The Howling, from Nickelodeon's Are You Afraid Of The Dark and Animorphs.

I am from many books and fairytales;

From R.L. Stine's Goosebumps, to The Bearenstein Bears.

I am from plastic Dinosaurs and Power Rangers,

Barbies' I stripped shoved in a drawer

And played with rarely.

I am from the lonely sandbox,

Playing with the dinosaurs nobody cared for.

I am from best friend Jessica Shelby,

Bold enough to welcome the new student,

In front of the entire class*sigh* how I miss her so.

I am from a psychotic grandmother, who tried to sell my young brother and me while my mother was in a Coma;

For dinking the poison laced Children's Tylenol,

Meant for my brother.

I am from my selfish uncle, who refused to house my family For a single night, I am from my tart of an aunt,

Who slept with my brother's father.

I am from my father, that son of a Spaniard, the one who Refused to acknowledge his own Daughter's life.

I am from my steadfast mother,

Whom I know has gone through much worse than I,

To have rescued us from that living hell.

I am from driving through a tornado zone,

Which was pitch black on a Texan summers' High Noon.

I am from miles of Nevada sand

And the blazing heat of California.

I am from the user, the makers, and the sellers that were in my home, and the drinkers that stole.

I am from growing up at eleven when the twins were born;

Once there were only three, now there are five.

I am from the car crash that broke my mother's neck;

The months that kept me away from her

Along with the fear of her injury and possible death.

I am from Texas and California, Hawaii and Oregon,

Florida, Louisiana, Kansas, and Montana.

I am from so much more, but it is too much to tell,

And would take too long to say.

I am from here and there;

I am from everywhere, everyone, and everything.

I am from nowhere, no one, and nothing.

I just am.
