The real me

by AGirlWorthFightingFor   May 25, 2007

Lift your eyes above to notice
mine glancing toward the exit
After every sigh of exhaustion
Praying for class to quickly end

Hands tap against my palms
sweaty, scratching at my sleeve
Aware that suspicious eyes of others
interupt my attention

Paranoid that everyone can see
the secret that I swore to hide
Risking the lives of anyone that I
have ever loved

You never wanted me involved
You know I never listen at all

How long could I expect to keep this up?
Pretending to be somebody I am not
When there are people who depend on me
to maintain their trust
If you only knew who I've become
these last few months

After class, roll up my sleeve
Reveal to you this ugly thing
Tattooed upon my inner arm
I know I went too far

I knew you wouldn't judge or scold too harshly
But could you please, couldn't you say something?

Oh, I really liked this. It was full of a sense of longing, of desperation to be heard, noticed even. The wording was excellent.

    Very well penned.
