What Remains

by Dawn Davis   May 26, 2007

Words left unspoken
for reason's unknown,
thoughts provoking,
dare not the tongue a moment..
Fear of rejection, discrimination, blame...
One not speaks to keep the peace..
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We balance between love and hate,
the silence not broken,
fear of tears forming
hearts left to drift the unknown
easier said than done...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Disguised behind our tear stained eyes
making reasons to cover the lies..
The heart an open playground,
the ball is tossed,
but never found..
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The sacrifice
more often bruised and used..
Vultures, picking, eating at the soul...
Repercussions never known,
only the skeletal remains;
scattered and torn,
what's left of this beauty you once had known....
