Happily Ever After

I was walking down the hall
on a clear morning day
when out of nowhere comes this guy
and we get in eachother's way

I rudely stammer "sorry"
then continue on my way
not even bothering to notice
the guy I had let get away

Throughout the day I began to wonder
as my mind wandered through space
who is this guy?
all I needed was a face!

At the end of the day
I searched the sea of faces
for the guy who could be
in so many different places

Realizing my defeat
I knew it was over
but as I began to head home
there was a tap on my shoulder

I turned around
and saw first his eyes, then his hair
in his hand he held a pencil
and it was then that I was aware

"You dropped this," he said
"when I ran into you today,
and I thought you might need it,
so I came out of my way."

I couldn't believe it
all I could do was stare
because I had been so rude
and all he had shown was care

"Thanks," I finally managed to say,
"that was really sweet of you"
He just smiled and said,
"Well, after running into you it was the least I could do"

We both stood there for a minute
not knowing what to do
then finally he broke the silence and asked,
"Can I walk the rest of the way with you?"

I nodded and smiled
and we both burst into laughter
both happy to know
this day will end happily ever after
