Unconditional Love Despite the Imperfections

by Vanessa   May 28, 2007

Tears can not stream down my face
My mother, now in a better place
Her suffering, and her pain, are gone
But with me her memory will live on

My loss is great, my heart is broken
I remember every word that was spoken
I hear it, like it was yesterday
I almost don't know what I should say

She now watches over me from above
Sending me her unconditional love
Even despite my imperfections
She offered me her protection

From all the unjust things in life
She endured the pain and strife
Doing the best that she could do
Always telling me to think it though

When I was quick to let my anger go
Mother, I will miss you so
My voice is cracking, with unshed tears
She was there though my toughest years

Loving me unconditionally, until the end
Not just my mother, but my best Friend
She meant the entire world to me
Because she's the one who helped me see

That love is unconditional, despite the imperfections
As I look at my mirrored reflection
I realize that she made me what I am today
Mother, I love you, is all that I can say.

*I wrote this for my husband, who has just lost his mother, he had a hard time putting into words what he felt , and he is reading this at his mothers furneal. To show how much she will be missed.*

^ I think this was a bit out of flow because it needed a few more syllables.

I'm so sorry for your loss, but if it's any concolation this was a brilliant poem. The flow was great, the descriptions were unique and heartfelt. The emotion was oozing out from each line and the poem just had a amazing feel to it. I lvoed it. 5/5

    Hey,
Firstly just want to apologise for the lateness of this comment.
Anyways this poem was really heartwarming and touching. The title catches the readers attention, it makes the reader wonder what the subject of this poem is. So the reader reads on. You had a good rhyme scheme with rhyming couplets. The first stanza introduces the reader to what the poem is about. i have to say my favourite stanza was the third one, it had brilliant emotion and it creates... i guess hope for those who are greieving. Then you go on to kinda talk about her life. It brings back these happy moments. A really really touching read about her death. It shows grief, the faith that she is in a better place, as well as a look into her life. A touching read. RIP to her. xx
