Today I Am, Tomorrow I Won't

by dollwithafrown   Jun 1, 2007

Today I died a little bit more,
As everybody does each day.
Isn't that what people think is true?
Straight from birth, you begin to slip away.

Today I cried a little bit more;
The water just fell from my eyes.
As the burdens just became too strong,
Filled with hostility and lies.

But then I realised something;
The sensation felt so strong.
What's the point on focusing on
The things in life that are wrong?

We have a whole gigantic world out there,
With new memories waiting for us.
Yet many people seem to seek out
Any reason to make a fuss.

So today I am changing my view on life
And tomorrow I won't cry.
I'll just live my life, to its fullest potential
Until it's my peaceful time to die.

    I can't believe no one has voted on this one yet. At first, I didn't get why it was in the inspirational section, but now I see why. :] . I love the story line behind this, it sends out a very good message and I am glad that I was given the opportunity to read a poem like this, it is hard to find a writer who can take a look at society and write about it like you have; kudos on that.

    I enjoy the flow of your poem. Some of the rhyming seems mildly forced but nothing that is overly distracting. The message conveyed is powerful to say the least. I might rewrite it one more time were I, you just to smooth out the meter a bit but the poem on the whole is absoluteley marvelous. A job well done.
