Unknown Band

by Alicia   Jun 1, 2007

Standing at your grave.
Flowers in hand.
A sad song in my heart.
By an unknown band.

The music plays softly,
Yet so vivid and clear.
A song you would love,
But never will hear.

I see us together,
Driving 'round in your car.
We always got lost.
'Cause we'd travel so far.

Now back to the present,
I'm standing alone.
A cold breeze is blowing,
And I'm chilled to the bone.

I kneel down,
To whisper our prayer.
I still feel bad..
I should have been there.

An image of you,
Pops up in my brain.
Caught in your seat belt.
And screaming in pain.

I wish I could help,
But I am stuck too.
Praying to god,
I could untie my shoe.

As the time passed,
You seemed to fade.
Then you passed out,
I wish you had stayed.

Nearly two hours later,
I thought I heard sirens.
Then came the voices.
And my pain was silenced.

Five days in the hospital.
I came out feeling great.
Right after that,
I found out I was late.

You'd passed away
While I wasn't around.
And I'd missed your decent.
Back into the ground.

It's amazing how fast,
Life is taken away.
What if we had,
Gone elsewhere that day?

But no, fate is cruel.
And you can't change the past.
Theres just certain things,
That aren't meant to last.

So this is for you.
Friend I'll never forget.
And here's to your song.
That never will quit.

That was my favorite stanza, but the entire thing was AMAZING! You are an amazing poet altogether, and therefore, I think you are underrated on this site, but hey, a lot of people are. I'm just shocked and apalled that all you have is bronze awards. Just keep in mind that no matter what the few people who ACTUALLY read poems on this site say and decide as far as "your talent", you hold something amazing. Don't keep it to yourself.
