A Picture Of You

by TheWorldFellNUWerentThere   Jun 4, 2007

There's a picture of you,
Sitting on the dresser,
A picture of a little boy,
Who had no troubles,
And had no fears.

That little boy has grown up to be a man,
On the edge of the world,
Holding onto his life,
By his fingertips,
Fighting to be the one on top.

Everyday you ask,
When it's going to be over,
When is the pain going to go away,
I can't help but cry,
When you whisper, "I love you."

I've spent my whole life,
Wanting to watch you live,
Waiting for that one you'll marry,
I never had a moment to think,
I'll be sitting here by your side like this.

I refuse to hear you say "good-bye",
I'm afraid to let your hand go,
I keep talking that you'll get through this,
Yes, you will,
You have to.

I saw a little boy in your eyes,
Still have those memories,
Of your baseball games,
Your first day of school,
Now I see a young man fighting to live.

I see a man,
Who fears to open his eyes to the world,
To see what it will hold in store,
Afraid to see what's going to hit him.

I see you,
Breaking away so quietly,
Falling away from a world so cruel,
Slipping away from me.

It's been months,
Since I lived those moments,
Now all I do is rock in my rocking chair,
And look at a picture of you on the dresser.

I loved the whole aspect of this poem, it told a story and it brought tears to my eyes. However, the flow was a bit off and it skipped around at a few parts. I think if you just edited a few lines it would be perfect. Great job. :]

    Is the boy dying?
    Why she said
"I never had a moment to think,
I'll be sitting here by your side like this"?
"I keep talking that you'll get through this,
    Yes, you will,
    You have to."

    I'm dumbass, sorry... ^^
    But I enjoy it.
    It's so real.
    Interesting poem.
    Great job. ^^
