Hold on

by Run out of words   Jun 5, 2007

So I sit here on my computer,
thinking about this past year.
And all these emotions inside me stir,
Time passes and in a blink I'll be back here.

Four years is a while,
and I won't lie to myself.
But everyone has a storybook,
and it's about time I put mine back on the shelf.

You can't hold on to something forever,
because it will soon slip out of your hands.
And trying to hold it back my dear,
will bring pain that no one can withstand.

But I love this moment,
and I want to freeze it for eternity.
What is this kind of torment?
Why must time pass so quickly?

My dog running across the room with a sock,
And me sitting here procrastinating work.
I miss every moment that ticks on this clock,
but somewhere in the darkness future lurks.

But why can't I hold this moment forever?
Why can't I cherish what makes me happy?
What if I don't want to move on from here,
and I want to cherish this moment dearly?

You can't hold on to something forever,
because it will soon slip out of your hands.
And trying to hold it back my dear,
will bring pain that no one can withstand.

You can't I guess,
I guess you just can't.
There are rules in this life,
that sometimes even I can't stand.

The first part of it seemed a little rocky, but then once it got going, it was great! I like the simplicity of the wish. It's a hard thing to let time pass (I hate time with a passion, and purposely procrastinate to prove points...hehe) and its a feeling everyone can relate to. Good Job!
