Love Letter to Vietnam

by April   Jun 8, 2007

A/n~ I wrote this for my English class. We just read the book __The Things They Carries__ by Time O'Brien. It's a great book- anyways. The assignment was to write a poem about Vietnam or something that connected to Vietnam, and this is what popped into my head. RR please.

Love Letter to Vietnam

Oh- My Beloved Vietnam
how I wish to break you free-
free of your hellish imprisonment
Oh Lord! I want to breathe your breath-
My Sweet Vietnam.
I want to see you without men
surrounding you-
taking all of you
I want these men to stop burrowing into you-
hiding in you-
poisoning you-
destroying you-
digging pores into your perfection
-destroying your graceful name-
and trying to make you ugly.
but I-
yes I-
know differently.
you are not ugly-
nor will you ever be
for you are the beautiful Vietnam!
Oh- My Beloved Vietnam
how I wish to break you free-
free of your hellish imprisonment
My Beloved Vietnam
