The Crippled Old Fool

by Marc Ortiz   Jun 8, 2007

Walking alone in this dark, barren land
There's no sound on this forsaken place
A frosty wind passes through me,
Singing it's song on this lonely day.

The cold breeze is slowly slaughtering my soul
My crippled feet cannot take the pain anymore.
I whisper to myself, "Let's take a rest"
Then lay there like an ant trampled to the ground.

Gazing at my destination. Suddenly,
Someone emerges from my line of sight.
I said to myself, "This is my chance"
(I slowly rise from my bed of stones)

I came closer to the wealthy stranger.
"Excuse me, do you have a minute?"
He ignores me and keeps walking.
I follow him in the shadows

Time goes by and he finally notices me.
"Hey, you beggar why are you stalking me?"
I said, "I need a place to stay, sir."
He replied, "You can stay here in this place"

"Please sir I'll die in this harsh weather."
Do you know how hard it is to live,
In this world as a crippled old fool?
He laughed, that's life! (What a waste of time talking to you)

Days later, in the news.. "A Crippled old man froze to death.."

*You should be thankful you have a place to stay.*

Good lesson all in all. I tried telling some people that they should be thankful for what they have. The poem itself could improve. The ending was just a bit too abrupt
