Flightless in Screams

by RetroRavey   Jun 12, 2007

This fallen faerie,
Flightless dove, rave,
That flies on currents
Driving toward the ground
Driven to the sun to burn.
I couldn't tell you why
I am unable to fly,
Though scars on my back
Are my only wings,
And I sing songs
Of shallow God redemption
That fail to lift me up.
I keep this secret in my own heart,
Voicing my truth to no one,
My pain, only to myself.
Keeping the truth under lock and key
Though breakable they are,
And tainted I may be
I sing songs of perfection
To my heart...
Knowing well that someday
She may leave-
You may ask why
This bird is pained,
And this faery
Doesn't flit about, as in tales.
I use to be a stone,
Cold and heartless
Where now I am warm.
But the pain comes from crashing
Mid-flight,
With tears in the memory
of wings,
Of flying on the wind,
Indestructible and free.
I'm broken, too,
Where blood spills
Like water from a fountain,
In ward screaming
Heard only in dreams.
This faery, dove, raven
Is falling in pain
Flightless in screams.

This is such a unique poem, once again. It's refreshing to read different things. The style in which you wrote this was very effective for the storyline. The description and emotion expressed thoughtfully, creating a wonderful piece. I really enjoyed reading this. 5/5
