He Paints Me Blue

by dollwithafrown   Jun 12, 2007

Two years ago last Friday, he took to that artist's stage,
And announced that he was going to paint happiness.
He lifted up the paintbrush, and applied even strokes of orange and pink,
Which eventually finalised themselves into a picture of me.

"My girl, the most beautiful thing on this earth:
Happiness, in it's true definition making my life complete.
A smile does not linger far from her face,
Always, she makes me laugh, when my soul is hurting."

That explanation never left my mind.
How great it feels to be known as somebody's world;
Their constant reminder that life is a wonderful place.
Oh how I wish I could have erased this past year.

No longer am I happiness's true definition,
But that's what happens when Death rules your world,
And instead last Friday when he took to the artist's stage once more,
The orange and pink was gone, replaced with a cold blue.

"My beautiful girlfriend's happiness is lost.
Blue skies are all that fill her world now."
I sighed at his new explanation, staring at the painting closely,
And realised I was looking in the mirror.

This is so heartbreaking and moving, I liked how you transitioned from happy to sad, it made the poem very powerful.
The imagery used in this is beautiful, I could picture it all very clearly, and although it doesn't rhyme, the flow is flawless throughout.

I liked your explanations and your reflections of the sad things in life...But on first stanza'S 3rd line the 'and' was useless..
If you erase it I think it would be perfect

    Well done
    Sincerely,
    Laura
