Ridgecrest teen dies in accident on Highway 14

A Ridgecrest teen died Sunday after the vehicle she was a passenger in overturned on Highway 14 in Mojave.
Amanda Collins, 15, was partially ejected from the right rear window of the pickup truck she was traveling in and suffered fatal injuries, according to a California Highway Patrol news release.
The driver, Elliot Collins, 17, was going northbound on Highway 14, south of Redrock-Randsburg Road, when he failed to negotiate a slight left hand curve in the road, the news release said. The right side tires of the pickup drifted onto the dirt gravel shoulder and Elliot Collins overcorrected to the left and re-entered the roadway.
The pickup then veered back to the right and left the paved portion of the highway, overturning in the open desert, the news release said.
Passenger Tracey Collins, 38, suffered major injuries and was flown to Kern Medical Center and passenger Stanley Collins, 38, suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Antelope Valley Hospital, according to the news release.
Elliot Collins suffered minor injuries and was treated at Antelope Valley Hospital.
