Something There All Along

by Poetically Speaking   Jun 14, 2007

I place a newspaper next to your pillow,
with headlines near your ear.
As you quietly ignore the world,
with eyes pressed shut, shedding no tears.

Spring morning air flows into our quiet home,
flowing through our kitchen,
down hallways to your skin,
while making its presence known.

I'm reaching for you to come home.
I've been waiting for so long.
Watching your lips hoping they would moan.
Never admitting that you're gone.

I've got a feeling,
which causes my knees to tremble and shake.
I'm stumbling and I'm kneeling,
hoping that someday soon your heart will awake.

I lay my hand where my fingers
did once mingle.
There's a lack of color in your skin,
but please don't worry my lover,
our time is wearing thin...

I've got a feeling,
which causes my knees to tremble and shake.
I'm stumbling and I'm kneeling,
hoping that someday soon your heart will awake.

Where your first sight will meet us face to face.
And all you see is endless possibilities.
Where silence leaves no trace,
of the years without birthdays and romantic Februaries.

Yet you shed not a single tear,
for the things you didn't see.
Because you always belonged here...
with your newspaper and me...
