Through Sacraficial Eyes

by Lanaia Lee   Jun 15, 2007

I stand here in awe of the pyramid that stands before me
I know walking up the steps before me, I will be walking to my death
Surrounded by warriors, there is no chance, for me to flee
Slowly walking the temple steps, I know soon, I will take my last breath.

I was told what an honor this is
To be chosen by the elders, me, I would be sacrificed to the Gods
Each step takes me closer to death, my destiny being with death to share a kiss
Given a drug, I am groggy, I feel as if I could nod.

I am dressed in my finest, my whole body has been perfumed
We walk so slow, I just want this to be over with
Slowly each step brings me closer to my groom, as I was meant to be his sacrificial bride
I must do my duty, to my God, I am his gift.

Making sure I was a virgin, the elders then set my fate in stone
One more step, as I walk to my preordained destiny
Each step closer to my God, soon I won't feel so alone
I have no fears, of what is about to happen to me.

My mind, my brain, is just spinning, I guess this is from the drug
At times, I can't conceive, the reality going on around me
The last step, in front of the alter, they give me something, in a very big mug
It seems now, I don't care what they do to me.

At the top of the temple, I am gently placed across an alter
I see the priest, elaborately dressed, as he dances and chants around me
I look to the sun, I watch it as I slowly die
My spirit will soon be one with my God, I have no reason to question as to why.
