A Heart's Defiant Sojourn

by DarkAngel   Jun 15, 2007

I close my eyes tight, tight as tight can be,
the colors swirl behind my lids in angry jealousy.

It wasn't supposed to be this way, why didn't I just see?
I hold my own hand in comfort, I now hold my own key.

My battered heart beats on, in a sick and broken rhyme,
It heals all wounds, they say, nothing more than a little time.

And so I walk beyond my means, head high despite the blows,
I'll always look behind me, as to dodge all my sorrows.

A smile graces my face, long since believed to be gone,
It wasn't supposed to be this way, but new lives just begun.
