The Pledge Of Allegiance

by geeeeee   Jun 16, 2007

We signed a treaty on our tainted willowed hearts
marking the beginning of an eternal allegiance
that which we do not understand and approve of
is thy fruit of obligation a right for humanity?
We proceed and continue to justify our mistakes
But fail to wash away the dirt on our hands
We are subservient to re-living out our history
Declaring a problem, but not taking responsibility
Watching through the reflection of our champagne glasses
The massive genocide forced down onto our own kind
While revenge seeps through the cracks of tragedy
The supreme ideology that has been created in our minds
Fuels the acceptance for the disregard of certain nations
We feel it is a necessity to aspire to others standards of living
But along the path of aspiration we lose and abandon our identity
Until we realise that we are all trapped in the same struggle
We will be fighting an everlasting war, for ever and a day
Yet we pledge our allegiance to act in accordance to the ways of a human
To fulfill its very meaning, in that is all that we have ever known.

*As humans we seem to feel we have the obligation and right to judge what does not fit into this box of normality that we have created in society. We cannot break away from our history, because its so hard to differentiate between the past and the present. We have the knowledge to fix the problems we are faced with, but for some reason cant find the means or will to fix them. In the end, someone pays for others tragedies. No deed goes unrewarded or unnoticed. The reward is usually a one way ticket to a closed casket in the cemetery. When you fall to conformity, you lose your true identity. When people wake up to the reality of this world that is when we will start to see change.
To make mistakes, is to be human.*

Wow, every single word of this poem I agree with. It's really remarkable... I mean, we are humans and people always feel that we shouldn't make mistakes, but it's all part of living. Maybe someday we will realize just what is right and what is wrong... Keep up that great work :)

    My favorite section:
"We are subservient to re-living out our history

This was a fantastic poem. I loved the imagery, especially in the above...
I truly wish I could write as you do. And this is not out of any desire for you to read my work[though, obviously, I would appreciate it], but I sincerely believe you would enjoy "Spin It" and "I Am Not."

Spin It is my evaluation of the chaos in our society, the stereotypical doings of not so stereotypical people.
I Am Not is my anti-ode to America, which is really, well, self explanatory.

I hope I don't sound self-promoting, honestly I think you would appreciate them.

Your poem is fantastic. I loved it.
    5/5.
