I Gave You a Rose

by peter   Jun 16, 2007

I gave you a rose
Crimson, I suppose
But you could not smell it
The thorns too sharp to feel it
It pricked your supple skin
Blood dripped, keeping the tears in
The rose tangled by its thorn
The radiance, lost and adored

I gave you chocolate
The finest assortment
But you could not taste it
Your taste buds linger in resentment
Before you could indulge
Right when you opened the box
The chocolate melted away
Your lips in great dismay

I gave you the sun
Luminous and warm
But you could not bask in it
The sunshine blinded your sight
Each time it shined on you
...You looked away
The light, blinded by its brilliance
Your smile, lost and adored

Maybe I should have given you forever...
But I guess I took a little too long.
