Shadows

by Mr M   Jun 17, 2007

In a frenzy of ecstasy,
Her shadow
Hungrily, obediently
Has nothing better to do
Than struggle with her lover's shadow
In their own frenzy too.
Twins of etiquette, but unlike the woman,
Her shadow must live without dreams
And would sacrifice anything
To be just as loved as her.
While we are together,
Nothing can come between us.
But for them, the noonday sun.
Now, I understand exactly why
All lovers are drawn into the night.

"Her shadow must live without dreams"
For some reason, this line made me very sad. I'd never thought of it that way, that shadows couldn't dream. That they're bound to follow you around forever, but never get to experience anything for themselves. I'm probably being irrational.
