Wedding rings

by Chris   Apr 22, 2004

She looked at me, then turned away
She said her tears were falling everyday
She handed me back her Wedding ring
Said she needed "better things"

She look at me then turned again
In response I asked
"Where did we go wrong?"
She answered
"In the end"
She said there were numerous, countless things
Not enough to bind her to her ring

I sighed then asked,
"What about the vows we made; The love we had, the love I gave...
Had all these feelings been betrayed?"
She said,
"You can't fight the inevitable."

I feel to my knees I wanted to die
I soon realized the love of my life
wasn't to be mine.
She said she felt it piece by piece
We had fallen apart
And it all started here deep in her heart.

Slowly but surely I started losing my senses
My heart was the first to surrender
Then my breath started to give in
My body grew weak
As my love grew cold

It was as if Love was the only reason I had survived
Now left with nothing why stay alive?
I was living but I died
Nothing got through me, Never touched my heart ever again

Stone by stone
Put it slowly brick by brick
I started building a fortress
My heart wouldn't quit
My soul will never find love again

Nothing gets through me nothing gets by
Nothing will ever hurt me or make me cry
Nothing will ever leave me
Nothing will ever get that close
Nothing is what filled my heart
when I needed it most
Nothing is what tore us in two
"nothing" she once said "will ever hurt you"
