Sounds of War

Listen to the hope
Listen to the faith
Listen to the strength
Listen to the pain

Listen to the crying
Of children in the night
Crying their soft tears
Hearts full of fright

Listen to the whispering
Of their parents
Underground, hating
To hope, but hoping nonetheless

Listen to the soldiers
Marching in the streets
Some young children, soldiering
Just so they can eat

Listen to the women
Hurriedly shuttering their gaze
As angry dictators
Tromp by in a fiery haze

Listen to the men
Rushing to and fro
Hoping to save their children
Hoping that they will go

Listen.
Listen to these sounds.
They are not sounds of hope, or greatness!
Listen. Listen.
For these are the sounds of war.
