Taught by the Best

Taught by the Best
by Ric Hansen
Fathers Day, 2007

Lets look from the bottom
all the way to the top
at all of the people we know,

At those who have been there
throughout our lives
and shown us the right way to go.

The one that I see
most predominately
who will always remain at the top,

Is the one, may I state
I hope to emulate
that's my father, my mentor, my pop.

He taught me to work
and to stand up with pride,
to fight for the things I see right...

He taught me to care,
how to face all my fears
and not give in without a fight.

He says to believe
in myself and my God
and to always strive for the best,

To nurture, protect
claim your stake when you can
give your all and then take time to rest.

"Honor your word,
Always do what you say..."
just some of the wisdom he shared

"Respect man and earth,
put family first"
more lessons to show us he cared.

Perhaps most of all
I will always be proud
to tell every one that I see,

"Hey! This is my Dad!"
and because of him,
hope my own children say this of me.

Although my father was never a part of my life, this is what I envision a good father to be.
