Behind Me Lies Another Fallen Soldier

by Bryan   Jun 18, 2007

His family gathers, to give their last goodbyes,
as the rain falls like the tears from their eyes.
A concrete angel rest where his body now lay,
another random soldier killed one horrible day.

When will our country learn from their mistakes,
every day soldiers die from the mistakes we make.
His mother knows what he would say to her,
"Behind Me Lies Another Fallen Soldier".

He is a lost fighter, fought for what he thought right,
he payed the ultimate price, died one cold night.
For a country who doesn't even seem like they care,
and every day more soldiers fates seem to share.

Theres nothing we can do but sit here and wait,
maybe our next president can change our fate.
Maybe we can learn to love instead of all this hate,
but hopefully its over, hopefully we are not too late.

Now My family gathers, to give their last goodbyes,
as the rain falls like the tears from their eyes.
If there is one thing I hope everyone will remember,
Behind Me Lies Another Fallen Soldier.

I was inspired to write this after a soldier was killed a few days before he was scheduled to come home, the same soldier who's sister went on TV talking to Senator John Carey

This is heartfelt. Recently a young man my sister went to school with since 3rd grade was killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq. A senseless tragedy. Excellent job on the poem!
