Kiss Me Goodbye.

"You're so annoying, get out of my way!"
We yelled harsh words that we didn't mean.
Everyday we did this.
Why did we follow this stupid routine?

He stormed out the door,
And drove away in his car.
He was headed off to work
But he didn't get that far.

An 18-wheeler ran a red light.
It hit three cars, and he was in one.
He swerved for his life
But the drunk driver had won.

I cried all week, day and night
I didn't even get to say goodbye.
I didn't tell him that I was sorry.
I was not ready for him to die.

I bowed my head and prayed to him.
He was more of a brother than I deserved.
I prayed for a sign that he received my apologies,
I prayed that my love for him stays preserved.

Then at that very moment, when I had said "Amen".
I felt a warm hug, but noone was in sight.
A piece of paper layed in front of my face
It read- Just kiss me goodbye.

At his viewing the very next day,
I layed 18 roses by his hip.
A couple words slipped from my heart.
I leaned over and kissed his lips.

Later on was his funeral.
We buried my brother in the ground.
My family hugged each other for comfort.
His name was the sweetest sad sound.

I left his funeral feeling at ease.
I am glad I was able to be by his side.
Thanks to the note and warm hug,
I finally was able to say goodbye.
