I told the stars to shine brightly,
That you'd be coming home soon,
I told them you'd lost your way
And so they told the moon.
He smiled down at me with his glowing face
Which seemed so sad yet so bright
And promised to form a moonlit path
Through the darkness of the summers night.
I told the roses to greet you openly,
With their tender crimson skins
And although they agreed they silently suffered,
From thorns which pierced there sins.
I told the wind to whistle sweet melodies
To calm and soothe your soul
And as its sweet voice lifted higher,
A familiar sad symphony was told.
I told the willows to sway softly
So I could hear when you came back
And although they stood majestically
I saw then weep and crack.
And so at my window I wait
Still as the stars have lost their glow,
And the withered roses along with the weeping willows
Lay in wait for spring to once again grow.
But the moon still keeps its promise
And smiles at me through the night
His celestial moonlit path
Still glowing and in sight.
And then I sat and wondered
Why no one stood within that moonlight queue
Then I realized you weren't lost,
Instead, I was lost without you.
